Technique Blitz: Faux Dichroic Bracelet

I have had this for a while, but I just cannot seem to take a picture of this that looks nice. Well, that is part of it -- the other part is that I just never seem to remember to do it!

In any case, this was made using the Faux Dichroic Technique, on of the CD 6 Bonus Techniques. These pieces are really pretty in real life! Sorry the pictures don't capture that...



My disturbing ATC

Did you ever make something that was vaguely disturbing?

I think this ATC is disturbing. I am in an ATC group and the theme for this month was fruits and veggies. I have these cool vegetable stamps from Close To My Heart that I thought would be perfect for this. They are long retired and I haven't used them much, so when opportunity knocks, you have to answer the door : )

When I started this ATC, the idea was pretty normal. Carrot, good for your eyes, and all that. In fact, this piece is probably the most normal of all the ATCs I made for the swap --the other ones are REALLY disturbing! (sorry swapmates, don't mean to freak you out!!).The reason I think that these are so disturbing is because the eyes are too serious -- it is almost like they are too intense for the stamps. Oh well, every once in a while we have to make things that jar the senses...

The background on this is a Technique Junkie Newsletter technique called Acetate Swirl from the 6th Edition CD Bonus Techniques. The eyes were stamped on the Acetate, then colored with gel pens. Is it just me, or do they disturb you, too?

Technique Blitz: Faux Dichroic

The centerpiece of this little necklace was made using the Faux Dichroic Technique -- I just love how this turned out! It took me longer to string the seed beads than to make the pendant.

Technique Blitz: Mirror Stamping

Today's Technique Blitz uses one of the bonus techniques from the soon-to-be-released 6th Edition CD. This technique, called Mirror Stamping, is one of 10 techniques that can only be found on the CD. Thank you to Manna Caffrey for this one! It is very hard to capture a good picture of anything reflective, so I hope you can see these clearly.

I know it is a little strange to see a fall card in the heat of August -- but it has been so refreshingly cool here this week that I just felt a bit autumn-ish. It will get hot again, I am sure, but in the meantime, here is a cool little pumpkin!

The pumpkin stamp is from Innovative Stamp Creations, the wheel is from Stampin' Up!, and the words around the edges are from Club Scrap.

Technique Blitz: Acetate Swirl

Today's Technique Blitz card uses the Acetate Swirl Technique -- one of the 10 CD-only Bonus Techniques from the soon-to-be-released 6th Edition CD from the Technique Junkie Newsletter. The stamps used here are from Artistic Outpost. I was looking to achieve a spotlight effect from my piece.

The 6th Edition CD has all of the issues from the Technique Junkie Newsletter from the October 2007 through the August 2008 issue. Each of the techniques are presented in step-by-step tutorials, with pictures for each step. There are plenty of artwork samples for each technique, too. Oh, did I mention that the tutorials on the CD are designed to print nicely onto an 8-1/2" x 11" piece of paper? Or that the CD has 10 bonus techniques that are only found on the CD?

Pre-orders for the CDs are $14.95 for subscribers, or $19.95 for non-subscribers. Subscribers can renew for one year and purchase the CD for $29.95 (until October 1st). You can become a subscriber for the next year, and pre-order the CD for the same price, too. All CDs will be released in September.

Remember the Twisted Tapestry card from the CD6 Bonus Techniques? I promised you the other card --the other half -- from the technique. You have to love a technique that makes such different cards. My kids would call it a "two-fer".

This is the first image I am showing from one of the Bonus Techniques on the TJ 6th Edition CD that will be mailed on or before September 25th. It is called Twisted Tapestry Double.

Believe it or not, this is only 1/2 of the technique! This technique makes TWO cards -- think positive and negative. The other "half" will be displayed later this week.

Ready -- Set -- Go!

Today is the first day of the first-ever "Patstamps Technique Blitz!"

What is that, you ask?

It is a card a day between today and August 31st. Each card will showcase a different technique from either the August 2008 issue of the Newsletter OR one of the Bonus Techniques from the New CD6 that is available for pre-order now.

So sit back, enjoy the art, and tell me what you like!

Our first card is from the August Newsletter -- it uses the Painted Pigment Technique with the Stencilled Collage Technique. The stamps and stencil are from Rubber Stamp Plantation.

The TJ designers will be joining us in the blitz when they can, and I will be posting links to their sites here. Note that I am away, without internet access, so they will be posted if I can find a Starbucks with WiFi in Canada! : )

It's a fitting card for today -- after all, I am away on vacation!. Hope your week is pure paradise! Enjoy the art...
