Blogger's Challenge -- Birthday!

When you have teenage boys, no hand made birthday card is ever cool enough. I am always trying to impress my kids with their birthday cards! My soon-to-be Sixteen year old son is VERY hard to impress. Don't get me wrong, he enjoys my stamping work -- just not when it comes to cards made for HIM!

This card was made for his birthday. My oldest baby is turning 16 -- soon to be driving. How did this happen? I am still 30 at heart, so I must have been VERY young when I had him.

But I digress...the Blogger's Challenge was to make a birthday card, so I used a Starch Smoosh background (August 2009 issue of the TJ Newsletter) with some Impression Obsession stamps. I hope I at least get some appreciation from him for using the gorgeous metallic paper from The Paper Temptress!! Hopefully, shimmer will impress him where my skills cannot.

Happy Birthday Ian!

Make sure to check out all of the artwork from the other Blogger's Challenge players -- the link is on my sidebar.

Weekly giveaway: Two Nancys Art Stamps

Today I am doing this giveaway under duress.
I'm just sayin'.

Every now and then you make a card that you fall in love with. This is one of those cards for me.
To make my card, I colored the flowers from the Summer Florals unmounted stamp set from Two Nancy's Art Stamps (our giveaway sponsor) with Copic Markers. The background uses the Faux Sanding Technique from the August issue of the Technique Junkie Newsletter. (The little saying on the stick pin is from a set I bought in FRENCH from Stampin' Up! - roughly translated, it means "thinking of you".)

The colors, combined with the Two Nancy's Art Stamps, plus the embellishments (which took me 20 minutes to make- ouch!)....whatever it is.... It just "does" it for me.

Now it will do it for one of you! One lucky randomly-drawn winner will receive the card on the left PLUS these wonderful stamps from Two Nancy's Art Stamps. This beautiful Summer Florals set is truly one of my personal favorites from all of the Two Nancy's Unmounted Stamp sheets. Beautifully drawn and detailed, they work great with any coloring media: Copic markers, Watercolor Crayons, Colored Pencils, water-based markers, chalks... They are beautiful no matter how you color them! Here is the unmounted sheet:

Have you been to the Two Nancy's site recently? You should go take a look! TJ members get a free gift with purchase -- AND the August Special is FREE SHIPPING on any order of $30.00 or more. Use coupon code freeafter30 (no spaces, all lowercase).

So how do you become the lucky winner of this giveaway?
To win this set and card, simply leave a comment by Friday, August 14th at 9am est. (In your comment, You can try to make me feel better about giving away the card, if you want...) The winner will be selected on Friday morning. Make sure that you leave enough information so that I can contact you to let you know you won. Just a reminder that Blogger does NOT leave me your email address. A great way to do this is to leave your email address in a spelled-out way, such as "p huntoon at optonline dot net." I will use my handy random number generator to pick the winning entry. You do NOT need to be a TJ subscriber to win. Good Luck!

Congratulations, Barb Presley! You are the winner of this set and my card!

Faux Sanding with Asian Artistry

It feels like it has been forever since I completed a creative project from start to finish! Since coloring 1000 pumpkins or 2000 frogs in the CHA booth while demoing for Copic in their booth doesn't exactly count as creative work, I was itching to make something! I finally broke away from my computer screen long enough today to play in the Technostamper Sketch Challenge #82. It has been a VERY long time since I have played -- but I am committed to doing this at least twice a month, because playing in this challenge allows me to just, well, PLAY.

Here is the original sketch:And here is my interpretation....and it is very literal! I used the Faux Sanding Technique from the August issue of the Technique Junkie Newsletter for the coral/orange panel in the back. The front panel was colored with Copic Markers. The stamps are from Stampin' Up!'s Asian Artistry Hostess Set. It is a little hard to see from my picture but the verse and flower are popped up from the back panels.
I love the way my card turned out -- and I am sending it to someone I know who approaches life with abundant enthusiasm, and who kept me up until 3am three nights in a row!

I hope you get creative today, too!

Who is the lucky winner of the first TJ Treasure Hunt?

Debbie Anstey!!

Congratulations to Debbie -- she is now a Technique Junkie for LIFE! Debbie correctly found the clues to the hunt to spell "Just Gesso" -- and her number was selected by our handy random number generator.

Thanks to everyone who followed our Treasure hunt -- we will be doing them once a month, at the end of every month. I hope you all had fun and that you enjoyed the artwork, too! The Design Team deserves to take a bow, and Chris Dickinson, who coordinated it for us, deserves sainthood : )

My simple geek

Hi there!
I just thought I would display a little piece of art from the Simple Whitewash Technique in the August 2009 issue of the Technique Junkie Newsletter. I love this piece! I used one of the stamps from Artistic Outpost's "Geek is Chic" Set. If you are a TJ member, you can order this set using your exclusive discount, too: TJ_2009_15off

Geek is Chic!

Hey -- have you joined the Treasure Hunt? Check out Monday's post for details -- you could become a Junkie for Life!

Treasure Hunt: Junkie for Life!

So Glad you're here! Hopefully, you are on the last stop of the Treasure Hunt. If you are stopping here first, you really need to follow the Hunt starting at the Technique Junkie Design Team blog ( At each blog in the Treasure Hunt, you will pick up a letter -- and when you are done, you will come back here and leave me a comment with what you have found.

The winner of the Treasure Hunt will become a JUNKIE FOR LIFE! If you win, that will mean that all of the past and future materials are yours. CDs will automatically show up at your door. Issues will appear like magic. WooHoo! Let me tell you a little about the card above. My card uses a morphed version of the Starch Smoosh Technique, one of the 16 new techniques inside the August 2009 edition of the Technique Junkie Newsletter. When I morphed my card, I used colored cardstock in place of the glossy cardstock the technique calls for -- and it has a smashing result!! I used a stamp from Stampin' Up!'s Nature Nest Collection, and paired it with a SU Wheel, too.

The newsletters are being mailed today, too, so watch your mailboxes if you are already a Technique Junkie! And the link...I bet it is live by the time you finish reading this : )

Okay, no more turtling around! Leave me a comment at the end of this post with what you have collected on the Treasure Hunt. I will pick a winner when I return from CHA and vacation on Monday, August 3rd. Good Luck!

Surfin' Sunday

Thanks for Surfin' by my blog today! Today's card features Stampin' Up! stamps (Extreme Surfer and Extreme Elements) with the Monomasking Technique from the February 2009 issue of the Technique Junkie Newsletter. (The big blue smudge on my scanner bed adds to the design, don't you think? NOT!)

Don't forget to surf on over to our Treasure Hunt TOMORROW too! You can become a Technique Junkie for LIFE! Details on the Treasure Hunt are HERE. See you tomorrow, Dude!

Christmas in July - in more ways than one!

Christmas in July! Who doesn't love having Christmas cheer all year long? This was the theme of Blogger's challenge this week -- which, of course, I am dreadfully late for. Not only that -- but I have a GREAT present for you for Monday. You won't believe it! Read on...

First, about my Christmas card: I used a Warhol-esque Technique (February 2005 issue of the
Technique Junkie Newsletter) on my Triple Play Card (February 2009 issue of the TJNL). I used my new Holiday Punch hostess set from Stampin' Up!. I just love that little set -- so many possibilities!

Now for the REAL Present! Starting on Monday, the Technique Junkie Newsletter designers are hosting out own Treasure Hunt. The Grand Prize is Technique Junkie for LIFE! One lucky winner will receive all the back issues and CDs that they do not have -- AND will receive all CDs and paper issues in perpetuity! How is that for Christmas in July!

Our Treasure Hunt starts on MONDAY, July 27th at the Technique Junkie Designer Blog. You will collect things along the way and end up here. Don't worry -- I will have the link here to the starting point again on Monday, if you forget where to go. And there is a tab to take you there at the top of my blog, too.

I will be at CHA on Monday, since I am the Guest Demonstrator for Copic Markers at CHA in Orlando! So if you have any questions, please email Chris Dickinson, who is our Treasure Hunt coordinator.

I hope you will all play along! Merry Christmas!

Phresh Fish anyone? That is Phresh, with a PH, because these fish from Firecracker Designs by Pamela are Sassy!

The card I made from the stamp sheet below uses a Cuttlebug Highlight Background (October 2008 Technique Junkie Newsletter) as a base for my Fish (which was colored with Copic Markers).
